Mozambique team - after the trial

Mozambique team - before malaria

Jungle Adventures

Greetings, all.
More than five weeks into our Amazon Outreach, Elliot and I (Kyle) are now entering the second part of our journey---the Boat Trip.
Due to Internet difficulties, we were unable to write an update previous to our boat trip, but our team is working in a small city, so we have internet access for now. We will probably not be able to update again until the week before we return to the United States. Until then, I hope this update will suffice.
During the first week, my team traveled upriver to our first destination, Sobrado a “community” that consists of interspersed houses along the course of the Rio Negro (Black River), that are centralized around small properties where churches, small stores, and, of course, soccer fields, are located. Our main focus of the week was to help in the construction of the church and to clean the surrounding land for practical use.
The second week of our trip, like I mentioned before, will be spent in small city (population of 15,000 people, yet very simple). My team is working, and will continue to work, with a local Baptist church. Our ministry will be focused on children.
The third and final week of our outreach will be spent in more extreme conditions… tribal conditions, to be specific. We will spend time in three different tribes, showing the love of Christ through practical service. The people of these tribes, even the people of our first two destinations, are simple and mostly illiterate. Therefore, practical service will be one of our greatest weapons. I just hope that I can hunt a crocodile, before this is all over…
Seriously, though, our team has many difficulties to overcome, the foremost of which is alcoholism, prostitution, and spiritual passivity. Prayer concerns also include health (Malaria and, of course, those annoying piranhas---Elliot and I both caught one, by the way), and team unity. In fact, several people of my team, including myself, have had dreams involving death, rage, and danger. We would appreciate it deeply if you prayed that God’s, and not Satan’s will would be done.
God bless you, and enjoy the pictures.
Elliot and Kyle, OUT.

Life here is just as busy as in the US. There is plenty to do everyday.
Homework, chores, laundry, waiting for the bus, bank, it seems that it is constant.
Thank God, we all got yellow fever shots, and are now getting ready for the trips. Thanks to your generosity, Kyle and Elliot have bought their tickets for the Amazon. They will spend a month in Manaus and 20 days in a boat at the Amazon River going from village to village. They are in a team of 13 people - 3 leaders and 10 students

Kevin and Seth's original goal is to go to Mozambique, but the team as a whole have had many obstacles in finalizing their plans. So, that leaves the boys in limbo for another week. Please pray for clarity and direction. If the boys do not go to Mozambique, they will be placed in a team in Brazil.

I will continue at the base, working at the project house and with the evangelistic team. Because of the many days needed to file documents, I have missed many opportunities to go in to the favela's and see some more healings. This is one of the main things I wanted to do during my stay here. The Documents are a challenge of its own. Thank God now everything is filed and scheduled to go before the Judge. I am just hoping that it will happen after June 23, when the boys arrive back from their practicum phase. the latest is that they will have to go before the challenge to accept their citizenship.
As you may know, Seth was developed some problems with his wisdom teeth. The poor kid had to have all four removed and a problem with a 5th tooth.
This has meant many afternoons downtown, were all the action happens around here.

Seth is on his 3rd day of rest since the surgery and his face is still swollen, but thank God he doesn't have a fever. He looses weight easily. He has not eaten since last Tuesday.

I am feeling the pain of being away from my husband. And I have not been sleeping well.

Missing you all,

Lea Isabel

Missing you!

I have never consider myself a futuristic person and know only the basics of the scientific fronteir, but I am ready for a portal between the U.S. and other nations. I am missing you my dear friends and family very much. My home group people that always made me laugh and prayed with me and for me, My girlfriends and our lunch dates, my sisters´abundant phone calls, and talking to Brenda at a drop of a hat. And I miss, Tyler, my cute nephew. Hey, Tyler, I need you here to do a powerpoint for me. I needed by Wednesday. With a portal, this would be possible - but I will have to rely on the internet for now.

I miss the church functions and eating out a Olive Garden.

But I have to say, that I would not trade this time here at this time. I love what I am doing, even though it is hard and with less confort. I feel like I am making a difference in the lives of the community children and I have solidified relationships here with people I have met 8 years ago.

But I do miss you and of all the appliances in my house, I have to say that I miss my dryer. So , if anyone of you in this coming up generation wants to invent a real portal, remember me, I might be wlling to be your guinea pig.
